How to Purchase

Tickets can be purchased in the following ways: 

  • The CTrail eTix app for Android or iOS 
    • Download the app from the Google Play store here
    • Download the app from the Apple App Store here
  • Full-service windows via Amtrak ticketing only at New London, Old Saybrook, and New Haven Union Stations.
  • Ticket vending machines at New Haven Union Station.
  • Onboard all CTrail Shore Line East trains – cash only, exact change, and no bills larger than $20. 
    • UniRail tickets cannot be purchased on board CTrail Shore Line East trains or at stations serviced only by CTrail Shore Line East.

Discounted Fares on CTrail Shore Line East

Children
Up to four children under 11 years of age traveling with one CTrail Shore Line East fare-paying adult travel free. Additional children will be charged the adult fare. However, children five years and under always travel free.

Note: CTrail Shore Line East’s “Child Fare Policy” does not apply to any Amtrak trains.

Senior Citizens, Persons with Disabilities, and Medicare Card Recipients
Seniors (65+) and people with disabilities get 50% off the standard fare of a one-way ticket with proper identification.

Personal Care Attendants (PCA)
PCAs with proper identification ride free when accompanying a passenger with a disability.

Proper identification includes a driver’s license, Medicare card, Connecticut Senior/ Disabled Reduced Fare Transit ID Card, or MTA Reduced-Fare Metro-Card/People with Disabilities Identification Card. A birth certificate can be used, but only with another form of identification.

Amtrak Cross-Honoring

Amtrak only accepts (“cross-honor”) CTrail Shore Line East ten-trip tickets and monthly passes for select weekday Amtrak trains listed on our schedule. Passengers with valid 10-trip or monthly passes wishing to ride the above-referenced trains must reserve a seat in advance through Amtrak’s RideReserve Program.
Note: Amtrak trains do not stop at all CTrail Shore Line East stations. Please check the schedule before planning your journey. 

Terms and Conditions:

  • Amtrak Cross-Honoring applies only to existing CTrail Shore Line East ticket holders.
  • Amtrak Cross-Honoring is not available on sold-out trains.
  • Reservations are required through Amtrak.com or the Amtrak App and can be made as early as 14 days before departure or as late as the scheduled departure.
  • Reservations may be canceled through Amtrak.com or the Amtrak App until actual departure with no penalty.
  • Damaged paper tickets may not be accepted.
  • Due to the limited number of ADA seats available, individuals requiring special accommodations should reserve a regular seat and plan to arrive at the station in advance to inquire about seat availability.

Refunds 

Paper Ticket Refunds:

One-way Tickets purchased at a ticket window or from the Ticket Vending Machine are refundable at CTrail Shore Line East ticket windows located at Old Saybrook and New London. They can also be returned to the Information Desk at New Haven Union Station.

Ten-trip Tickets that are unused are refundable for 180 days only by mail (see process below). 

Monthly Tickets are refundable only by mail (see process below). The redemption value of unused or partially used Monthly tickets is determined based on the calendar day of the month the ticket is postmarked for refund.


Mail Refund Process:

  1. Download a Refund Request Form.
  2. Print and complete all fields of the form
  3. Mail the completed form and ticket to:

CTrail eTix App Refunds:

Refunds are only available in the app on the same day of purchase. Other refund options past the same day of purchase may be available through CTrides Customer Service.

One-way tickets can be refunded in the app until 11:59 p.m. on the same day of the purchase.

Ten-trip tickets can only be refunded in the app if they are unactivated in the “hold” status until 11:59 p.m. on the same day of the purchase.

App Refund Process:

  1. Go to the “Available Tickets” screen in the CTrail eTix app and tap on the ticket description you would like to refund. 
  2. Tap on the red “Actions” button. 
  3. You will receive a refund receipt via email, and the funds will be returned to the credit/debit card you used to buy the ticket.

If a refund is unavailable, the mobile ticket is not eligible for a refund. If you need help with a refund, please contact CTrides Customer Service between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. by phone, text, or chat.

NOTE: All refunds are subject to the CTrail Ticket Refund Guidelines at the discretion of CTrail customer service.

Lost Tickets

Lost, damaged, or stolen tickets are neither refunded nor replaced.
