If you live east of New Haven and work west of New Haven, it makes even more sense than ever to commute by train. Our combination Shore Line East/Metro-North UniRail Ticket saves you up to $51 a month. And, with no traffic, weather, car or parking problems and expenses, it's a great transportation bargain.
UniRail tickets are available at Union Station in New Haven, at any New Haven Line ticket window, and through Metro-North's Mail&Ride program. For further information on the Mail & Ride program, contact Metro-North at 1 (212) 532-4900.
Amtrak now cross-honors Shore Line East (SLE) tickets on SELECT Amtrak trains. A valid SLE Monthly, Ten-Trip, Ten-Trip UniRail, or Monthly UniRail ticket must be presented to ride these select Amtrak trains.
Passengers without one of the valid multi-ride tickets will be charged the Amtrak full one-way fare. Please note that Amtrak trains do not stop at all SLE stations.
Shore Line East offers a reduced fare for seniors (65 years and older), persons with disabilities (12 years and older) and Medicare Card recipients. The reduced fare is 50% off one-way fares on all Shore Line East trains except weekday morning peak trains. Reduced fare tickets are available on-board SLE trains and at Union Station in New Haven, Old Saybrook, and New London Amtrak ticket windows.
Personal Care Attendants (PCAs - people employed to assist individuals with disabilities) are eligible to ride the commuter railroads free when accompanying a passenger with a disability. Where required, the PCA must carry identification which shows that he or she is employed by an agency that provides services to people with disabilities.
Proper identification is required to receive the reduced fare.
Up to four children ages 11 and under may travel for free with a Shore Line East fare paying adult weekdays and weekends. Additional children will be charged the adult fare. Shore Line East "Child Fare Policy" does not apply to Amtrak Cross-Honoring options.
If you're continuing your trip on a Metro-North New Haven Line train, for up to four children ages 5-11 traveling with a paying adult, the fare is $1 each. Any additional children ages 5-11 will be charged half the adult fare. Children under 5 years of age travel free.
